As members of this community of technophiles that is the University of Missouri - Rolla, we know that there is no such thing as a stereotypical engineer. However, mention the word engineering to someone further away from the middle of everywhere, and they might have a different idea. They might think of some Dilbert-looking character that is better with numbers than with people. They might think of someone who cares more about technology than humanity.
At Colorado University, where Dr. Amadei is a Professor of Civil
Engineering, he is quoted as saying that, "Traditionally, engineers are
seen as cold and technical, but they have as much compassion as anyone
else."
Dr. Amadei is also a proponent of the Earth Systems Engineering concept. Earth Systems Engineering is concerned with long term, sustainable, and environmentally ethical solutions to the engineering problems that we face today and and will face in the future. For more information about Dr. Amadei, visit his official biographical sketch at the University of Colorado. And don't miss the opportunity to meet this great man at the Beans and Rice Banquet on October 13th!
